About DASP

Diversified Agriculture Support Project (DASP) Phase-I started in September 23, 1998 and successfully completed on 31.03.2004 with the objective to accelerate the trends of diversification with the financial assistance from the World Bank to intensify agricultural activities through farmer's participation.

Main Achievements

  • Cropping intensity increased from 169% to 203% (1998 to 2003)

  • ATMA model first time used in State through project.
  • Agriculture Management Centre was established at IIM, Lucknow with project corpus fund.
  • Successful participatory processes were established in project formulation, implementation & monitoring with active participation of Government, Non Government Organizations & Farmers.
  • 2728 Kms of rural roads were constructed under the project.
  • UP’s Panchayati Raj department mainstreamed the upgrading of rural haats along the DASP model through a State wide program.
  • Implementation completion report of World Bank rated the project as Satisfactory.

           
DASP-II was started on 27.11.2007 by State Govt. fund and later on funded by RKVY and the project was successfully completed on 31.03.2013.

Main Achievements

  • Geographical Indications for “Surkha Guava” was registered on 13.02.2006 with the help of UPDASP which is first G.I. in Agriculture Sector of U. P. “Kala Namak Rice” was registered on 09.09.2013 while “Rataul Mango” registration is in process.
  • ISO/HACCP certification has been awarded to four major Dairies (Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad and Faizabad).
  • Introduction of Hybrid Paddy seed and SRI techniques demonstrated on large scale.
  • Private Sector Nurseries in Vegetables and Tissue Culture Banana were promoted in the project.
  • Income Generation Activities for landless farmers were introduced.
  • Paravets trained 1478for first aid and AI services in Animal Husbandry.
  • PCU UPDASP has been nominated as Nodal Agency for Agriculture Diversification in the State vide G.O. No. 839/le/-73-2014 dated 16.06.2014.

Crop Diversification Programme in Western Uttar Pradesh (CDPWUP) (2014-15) at a glance

Western Uttar Pradesh Crop Diversification Plan was sanctioned by the Central Government & its implementation & Monitoring is carried out by the Project Coordination Unit (PCU), UPDASP, Lucknow.

The main objective of the plan is to replace the area of water guzzling crops especially Paddy with crops that use less of water like Urd, Kharif Moong and Poplar under Agro Forestry. Thus farmers belonging to any socio-economic strata & irrespective of land holding available to them and who are keen to replace Paddy with other crops are eligible to be benefitted under the plan.

Maize, Kharif Urd, Kharif Moong Bean, Arhar and Inter-cropping with Poplar together with Poplar Plantation are the Crops Chosen under the Plan.

The Plan is being implemented in 18 districts of 5 Divisions of Western Uttar Pradesh.

During the financial year 2014-15, out of sanctioned Annual Action Plan of Rs. 3475.15 lacs the total achievement has been Rs. 3226.45 lacs which is 93% of the sanctioned Annual Action Plan.
